Uplifting Reggae.......Lift Up Your Head (Everton Blender)

There are days when we just need to hear a song with a very powerful and positive message to keep us going on the sometimes rough road of life. This song speaks volumes on staying focused in life, having self confidence, living honestly and proudly and not feeding into the negativity around us.
Everton Blender is a Reggae Artist that always produces songs that help us to deal with the challenges of life.

Whatever our challenges are, it is important for us to keep the big picture in mind and not get distracted by the difficulties that life throws on us every now and then. Things work out for the best in the end most times........ And when they don't? Well we still have to keep strong and keep going to overcome the next obstacle that's waiting for us down the road.

Usain Bolt "World's Fastest Man"

So Usain Bolt has done it again and shattered the world record for the mens 100m and 200m track and feild event in Berlin. He ran the 100m race on Sunday and today four days later I found a song about him on youtube.......

I love how our reggae artists promote our athletes and how athletes influence reggae/ dancehall music and dancing. This song is by Vybes Kartel, one of the biggest dancehall artists in Jamaica right now.

My favorite Quote

The heights by great men reached and kept, were not obtained by sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Wonderful quote, this fella sure knew what he was talking about. I hope that as you read this quote, you will remember all the goals that you have set for yourself in life and keep on working on them. If we can dream we can achieve. Sometimes it just takes extra hard work and more dedication than the next person to make our dreams a reality. Keep dreaming......and remember......

Love and Affection (Pressure)

So I read somewhere recently that the secret to keeping a woman is pretty simple.....

Basically the article stated that women need three things to stay happy in a relationship: Appreciation, Attention and Affection. Sounds simple but its true. Women need to feel apprecitated, we want to be with some one who is attentive to our wants, needs and feelings. Most importantly, we need emotional and physical closeness and affection. Pressure hits on the subject in this beautiful song.....

Ladies when you met that next guy that's struggling to figure out exactly what it is that you want him to give you. Play him this song.....
When you find the one out there that truly wants to give you love and affection, I hope you open up yourself to him and accept him as a blessing......
Those of you out there who already found that one, I hope you return the love and affection let your man know he is special to you.......

My Thoughts on......President Obama in Ghana

All this coverage about President Obama in Ghana had me thinking about this beautiful song by Peter Tosh.......

Beautiful song indeed. As long as you live in this world you are an African.......
I have a feeling President Obama would appreciate this song. We all need to get the message out there that despite our differences were are all one people.

I can just imagine the excitement of the people of Ghana. It is truly a wonderful thing to be a part of history as the first African country to be visited by the first Black US President.

I hope President Obama visits Jamaica sometime in the future...... I can definitely promise that Jamaica would throw a party of epic proportions to celebrate his visit. Jamaicans LOVE President Obama and they are very passionate people! You would not believe just how many reggae songs there about President Obama. I'll be sure to post a few sometime in the future......

Life Lessons.....A friend in need is a friend to be avoided.

"A friend in need is a friend to be avoided."
-Lord Samuel

Today one of my co-workers found this quote online. When I heard the quote, my first thought was no one should avoid a friend in need. However, after thinking about this quote for a while I have to say its true........

Sometimes as friends the best thing we can do is leave our friends alone and let them learn from the greatest teacher, life itself. Your friend in need should be avoided when he/she:
  • Only calls you when they are in need. This is a big one. Light bulb! If you only get called when things are bad you are not even a friend at all.
  • Was nowhere to be found last time you were in need. If they didn't have your back last time, chances are next time time you are in need they wont be there for you either.
  • Only seems to be happy when you are not, (they tend to be the ones that always have something negative to say, are never supportive of you and seem to spend all their time bringing you down so they can feel better about themselves).
  • Refuses to see what you and everyone else sees about the current love of their live. Sometimes love really is blind and the best thing you can do is stand by and wait for the destructive relationship to self explodes.
  • Needs to borrow some cash again, just hold over until payday despite all your good advice on how to budget and spend their own money wiser.

I'm telling you this might seem harsh but there comes a time in life when some friends need to be avoided. Furthermore, if someone in your life fits more than one of the above criteria you should just get rid of them. With friendships it should always be quality over quantity. As Confucius once said:

“Have no friends not equal to yourself.”- Confucius

Please share all other instances that friends in need should be avoided. Lets share the word and help each other break bad friendships.......
