This is my country's national anthem. I used to sing this everyday when I was in school. I love this song. It always fills me with pride for my country. I rearely hear it now but when I do I always enjoy the special moment.

I remember crying as I listened to the lyrics of this song. I could just feel the pain that a mother feels after loosing a child to the violence in the streets.This song just makes me remember that lots of people in life have it way harder than me and they just keep on trying to survive.

In high school we had devotion ( worship songs and prayers) followed by our school song "Oh Ruseas built upon a rock" every morning. I remember back in the day our teachers used to say every one needed to know the school song to promote school pride. Years later, I have to say that I LOVE my high school.
Could be the school song or it could be that those five years in high school were super duper great. Song starts at around 1 min 30 sec....

This one goes to a friend I used to know when I was fifteen. He always told me "Be careful of your friends....that is the most important life lesson to learn as a teenager" I am happy I listened. I am sure that saved me a whole boat load of regret!

The Harder they come is a Jamaican movie classic. I went to see the movie at Central Park summer stage movie special a few years ago and was surprised to see what a diverse fan following this movie has. What can I say. Just classic.... I choose the video with scenes from the movie for those of you who have not seen it yet.

Blog-a-day Challenge: Day 10 - A song by your favourite band

Morgan Heritage is a world class reggae band.Their songs are culturally meaningful and easy to relate to. The lead singer Gramps got pipes that leaves chills up your spine......If you every get a chance to see this band live I highly recommend it. The performance will be worth every penny.I included a live performace but it is pretty long. If you do check this out gramps starts singing around the 2 minute mark. Truly world class!

Blog-a-day Challenge: Day 6: A song that reminds you of a best friend

This is a sad one. My best friend passed away from Cancer in september 2004 and that was one of the most difficult times in my life so far. I was not prepared for her to die so young even though I knew she was fighting cancer. When she died I was in shock and could not feel anything for the whole month. I celebrate her life and keep her memory alive but there will always be that sense of loss and pain assoicated with Septemer for me.

This one is my ring tone. Maybe that explains why it is always stuck in my head. Bugle is one of the best lyricists in reggae music right now. "Journeys" sums up my attitude towards life.....

My mom loves Beres Hammond. I remember one summer he performed at a free concert in Brooklyn and we got turned away because the concert was packed 3 hours before the concert was scheduled to begin. My mom cried and we ended up staying outside and watching his performance on big screen TV's from outside. Beres has a lot of hits to choose from but this is her favorite because it reminds her of the good old days.

This one was a bit hard. Couldn't think of a song that reminded me of him when we were together so I choose the song that reminds me of him now. I get phone calls and texts from time to which I always reply "Too Late".

The challenge starts with a song that brings a smile to my face every time I see this video. The outfits look so funny now but back in the days that was top style. I remember that this song came out when I started going to the dance hall Sunday nights at the community center. Everyone would dance the Tatie. Never been a great dancer but I always gave it my all. Those were the good old days when Snagga Puss was on top.....
