Life Lessons.....A friend in need is a friend to be avoided.

"A friend in need is a friend to be avoided."
-Lord Samuel

Today one of my co-workers found this quote online. When I heard the quote, my first thought was no one should avoid a friend in need. However, after thinking about this quote for a while I have to say its true........

Sometimes as friends the best thing we can do is leave our friends alone and let them learn from the greatest teacher, life itself. Your friend in need should be avoided when he/she:
  • Only calls you when they are in need. This is a big one. Light bulb! If you only get called when things are bad you are not even a friend at all.
  • Was nowhere to be found last time you were in need. If they didn't have your back last time, chances are next time time you are in need they wont be there for you either.
  • Only seems to be happy when you are not, (they tend to be the ones that always have something negative to say, are never supportive of you and seem to spend all their time bringing you down so they can feel better about themselves).
  • Refuses to see what you and everyone else sees about the current love of their live. Sometimes love really is blind and the best thing you can do is stand by and wait for the destructive relationship to self explodes.
  • Needs to borrow some cash again, just hold over until payday despite all your good advice on how to budget and spend their own money wiser.

I'm telling you this might seem harsh but there comes a time in life when some friends need to be avoided. Furthermore, if someone in your life fits more than one of the above criteria you should just get rid of them. With friendships it should always be quality over quantity. As Confucius once said:

“Have no friends not equal to yourself.”- Confucius

Please share all other instances that friends in need should be avoided. Lets share the word and help each other break bad friendships.......
